Saskatchewan ORT orders: next steps

From an unpaid Saskatchewan ORT order to King’s Bench, the Judgment Registry and sheriff enforcement: a landlord’s starting checklist.

Before you act

General information, not legal advice. Official sources checked October 6, 2026; this is not a lawyer-reviewed opinion. Read your order and the current official instructions. A stay, appeal, bankruptcy or payment can change what you may do.

Issue the order in King’s Bench

The Courts of Saskatchewan explain that Office of Residential Tenancies orders can be issued in the Court of King’s Bench for enforcement. Deliver the original or a certified copy to the Local Registrar with the applicable fee. First check any appeal, stay or payment that affects the order.

Register the judgment

The court guide identifies registration in the Judgment Registry as a necessary part of legal enforcement. It separately describes optional registration against land, which is not the same as a guaranteed right to force a sale. Use the current Information Services Corporation instructions and confirm the debtor’s exact identity.

Give the sheriff useful instructions

Sheriff enforcement is not automatic. The guide describes an Enforcement Instruction and a Statement that Enforcement is Not Precluded, supporting records and an advance for fees. Accurate information about employment or assets can help determine the appropriate measures.

Other registered creditors and protected property can affect distribution. Inform the sheriff about payments or other material changes and follow their directions about money received while enforcement is active.

Where credit reporting fits

Court enforcement and credit reporting do different things. Enforcement uses court processes to pursue payment; reporting supplies information for a credit bureau to assess. Neither guarantees recovery. A final order does not guarantee bureau acceptance or a particular effect on a credit file.

StrikeLM checks eligibility before payment and charges $99 CAD for a submission of eligible order-backed unpaid rent to Equifax Canada and TransUnion Canada. It does not file court enforcement documents, garnish wages, seize property or negotiate payment. Keep the balance current and disclose any existing reporting of the same debt.

Keep a complete file

Retain the complete decision and order, service records, your lease, a dated rent ledger and proof of every payment. Separate rent from damage claims, costs and interest. Do not add fees to the reportable balance without a lawful basis. Notify any enforcement professional and reporting provider when the balance changes.
